Embryoscope IVF technology At City Fertility we pride ourselves on the world-class laboratories in which our scientists work.

With our scientific leadership team having a combined experience of more than 60 years in the IVF and fertility industry, your gametes and embryos are in expert hands. Together, City Fertility and CHA Medical Group deliver world-renowned pioneering fertility technology and science and are leaders in pregnancy outcomes globally.

CHA Medical Group is one of the leading R&D publishers in the world, treating more than 30,000 IVF cycles annually. Moreover, CHA’s fertility and research centres are renowned for several world-first achievements including the development of in vitro maturation (IVM) and the vitrification method of oocyte cryopreservation (i.e. egg freezing), now a standard procedure globally.

We incorporate the latest state-of-the-art equipment, systems and facility technologies in our laboratories to further optimise the carefully controlled environment necessary for the best IVF success rates.

Importantly for our patients, our scientists will keep you updated throughout your treatment and are also available as a resource to you. At City Fertility you can organise a scientific review of your treatment cycle at no cost.

They can discuss topics such as the freezing technology “vitrification”, which has improved IVF success rates dramatically. We also offer our patients day 5 embryo transfers; however, we are open to early transfers if supported by your treating Clinician.

Is it safe to switch to City Fertility?

Yes, you can rest assured that our experienced and expert scientists, nursing and admin teams will ensure that the transportation and storage of vitrified embryos, eggs or sperm between fertility clinics is performed safely, securely and lawfully.

To help alleviate any concerns you might have around the transportation and storage of vitrified embryos or gametes between fertility units, we have compiled a list of the frequently asked questions.

Is there a risk associated with the transportation and storage process?

The transportation of frozen embryos, eggs and sperm between clinic is extremely safe and secure. This is common practice and is done by placing the embryos into a “dry shipper’’ – a specialised cryogenic vessel that keeps embryos in a “deep freeze’’ while being transported between clinics. When the shipper reaches the new clinic, the embryos are placed into secure larger tanks for ongoing storage.

You can be assured that their welfare will be in the very capable hands of a specialised medical transport company whilst they are in transit between the two clinics.

City Fertility uses a specialised service that is door to door and has extensive experience transporting and handling “dry shippers”. We have successfully shipped embryos around the world, with evidence that the contents were never compromised.

Is there a risk to the frozen embryo, eggs or sperm?

The risk to the frozen embryo, eggs or sperm is negligible. The embryo or gametes remain frozen during the entire transportation process in a specialised tank that can go around the world maintaining the environment needed to sustain the frozen material. These tanks are prepared and monitored prior to/during shipping and at receipt at the clinic.

Moreover, at City Fertility all storage tanks are monitored regularly and confirmed for integrity and temperature maintenance before and after each and every use.

Is there a risk of my frozen embryo or gametes being misplaced or mixed up with another?

The frozen embryos, eggs or sperm are clearly labelled and witnessed at the time of freezing. The labels used for this process are specialised and do not come off in liquid nitrogen storage.

At City Fertility, we take quality and safety seriously. All our clinics are fully accredited against Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee (RTAC) Standards, a mandatory set of standards established by the Fertility Society of Australia for all clinics offering Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Our Sydney CBD clinic is also accredited to the NSQHS, standard V2. In addition, all our clinics meet the national ART ethical guidelines, state legislation and comply with Workplace Health and Safety regulations.

What is the cost to switch to City Fertility?

The costs involved to transfer your embryos, eggs or sperm to City Fertility include the courier fee to transport the gametes/embryos and an upfront storage fee. Please contact our friendly staff on 1300 354 354 to discuss your individual circumstances.

Please be aware that the releasing clinic may charge additional fees.

Research reflects positive results

A published scientific study (Reed, reporting in The Clinical Embryologist, Volume 10, Issue 4) showed that vitrified embryos held in a storage tank for three days had no difference in survival when thawed. This study also showed that the duration of storage had no effect on thawing outcome, survival and continued embryonic development.

Is the IVF process the same compared to other IVF clinics e.g. blood tests and ultrasounds?

At City Fertility, we understand that each fertility journey is different and therefore, your treatment will vary depending on your personal circumstances. Following your consultation with one of our specialists, you will have a tailored fertility plan and a clear understanding of the next steps involved in your treatment plan.
