Dr Aitken has been a full-time obstetrician and gynaecologist since 2000. He has a special interest and training in the management of fertility and associated surgery.
Dr Aitken utilises his extensive knowledge and expertise to support his patients during every step of their fertility journey. He prides himself on understanding every patient’s individual circumstances and tailoring their treatment plan to give them the best chance of falling pregnant.
He graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1984 and worked in Sports Medicine, then country General Practice before specialising in Obstetrics & Gynaecology mainly at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
Dr Aitken has a strong interest in the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHAD. More specifically, he has a special interest in how a child’s future well-being can be affected by a couple’s health at conception and during pregnancy and whether IVF and other fertility treatments influence this.
Dr Aitken is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG). Dr Aitken is also the past President of The National Association of Specialists Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (NASOG) and a Fertility Society of Australia (FSA) member. He is also the Director and co-founder of Fertility Specialists of Western Australia, based at Bethesda Hospital in Claremont.
Outside of work he enjoys time with his wife and grown family of four children and is a keen surfer, bike rider, yoga exponent and lover of nature.
