Melbourne City Welcomes Renowned Fertility Specialists Dr Hossam Elzeiny and A/Prof Wan Tinn Teh to the Team

City Fertility is pleased to welcome two of the industry’s most well-regarded specialists to its Melbourne City team.

Dr Hossam Elzeiny and A/Prof Wan Tinn Teh bring a wealth of experience to our already formidable Victorian medical team and the pair will consult from Melbourne City’s new all-service clinic on Jolimont Road which will be opening very soon.

Dr Elzeiny is a compassionate and highly regarded fertility specialist, reproductive endocrinologist and gynaecologist, with 19 years of experience in the field. He began his career at Melbourne’s Royal Women’s Hospital where he earned a fellowship from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

He is one of Australia’s leading certified fertility specialists, having pursued an advanced three-year Certificate in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) degree, which is the most prestigious qualification in the field. Only 74 specialists in Australia hold CREI. As a certified fertility specialist, he brings unparalleled knowledge and skill to his practice.

“I believe I am one of the most experienced specialists in the country,” says Dr Elzeiny. “I’m your partner in creating families, I get the best results, I look after complicated patients, and take the time to understand each patient’s unique situation and provides tailored treatment plans.”

His compassionate approach ensures that patients feel heard, supported, and well-informed throughout their fertility journey.

A proud innovator of fertility treatments, Dr Elzeiny was the first to replace painful progesterone injections with the more patient-friendly Prolutex, supporting pregnancy.

He also introduced a safer ovulation trigger mechanism to eliminate Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) and improve egg extraction, especially for women who want to freeze their eggs.

Dr Elzeiny also specialises in male infertility, particularly for men with zero sperm count (azoospermia). He leads in performing Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction (MD-TESE) for Azoospermia and men with Klinefelter syndrome providing unfragmented care to such couples and maximise their chance of achieving their dream.

“I always wanted to be a fertility specialist, and today I am more focussed on IVF than obstetrics,” he said. “I see a lot of patients who come to me for a second opinion. I usually spend quality time with patients during this consultation to ensure they understand their options and feel empowered to make informed decisions and provide them with a plan.”

Joining Dr Elzeiny at Melbourne City is Wan Tinn Teh – the pair have known each other since she started her career in fertility more than 15 years ago.

Like her colleague, A/Prof Teh is a distinguished fertility specialist who is dedicated to advancing treatment options and improving outcomes for her patients. She is Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne who holds a PhD on uterine receptivity. She also holds numerous grants and awards for her research to enhance understanding of the factors which affect implantation to improve IVF success.

Renowned for her expertise and commitment, A/Prof Teh is widely recognised for her contributions to the field of reproductive medicine and comes to City Fertility with patient-centred care at the core of her practice.

“City Fertility’s research and innovation focus is a big part of the appeal for me also,” A/Prof Teh adds.

“Being able to work out of a brand-new facility which has been purpose-built for IVF is great for our patients too. We have the day surgery, the lab, the consulting suites, specialists and nurses – everyone in one place. I think that’s going to be very convenient for patients and improve patient care.”

A/Prof Teh holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Monash University, Masters of Reproductive Medicine from the University of NSW, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Melbourne.

She completed her general specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at Monash Medical Centre, followed by two years of reproductive fellowship at the Royal Women’s Hospital.

Her main research interest is on endometrium, implantation failure, and improving obstetric outcomes following IVF treatments.

Throughout her career, A/Prof Teh has received multiple scholarships, research grants, and awards, which has led to her being widely recognised for her contributions to the field of reproductive medicine.

Fluent in Mandarin (中文), A/Prof Teh offers consultations in both English and Mandarin, ensuring effective communication with her diverse patient base.

Once again, we welcome our new specialists and look forward to many more patient successes and innovative outcomes in the future.
