For Dr Andrew Zuschmann the most satisfying aspect of his job as a fertility specialist is being able to care for his patients throughout their entire reproductive journey, from conception to delivery.

He is held in high regard and has assisted patients with gynaecological, fertility and pregnancy care, supporting some of them through minimally invasive surgeries, recurrent miscarriage, PCOS and management of menopausal symptoms.

Experience, empathy, open communication and a commitment to achieving the best healthcare outcomes for patients are all qualities you can expect from Dr Zuschmann.

A medical graduate of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), he completed specialist training in 2005 and attained his fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG). He went on to complete his Master of Reproductive Medicine from UNSW in 2008.

Dr Zuschmann actively involves patients in the decision-making process about their pregnancy and birth. He ensures they are fully informed about the risks, benefits and likely outcomes of any given course of action.

Known for his relaxed consulting and communication style, it’s not uncommon to see Dr Zuschmann without a tie on. The reason, he wants his patients to feel comfortable from the outset and encourages plenty of questions.

He prides himself on using the most up-to-date techniques to help his patients make informed choices and reach their goal of having a baby.

Get to know your doctor

I grew up in… Sydney’s wonderful Sutherland Shire.
I start my day by… Getting woken up by a six-month-old who is just starting to find her singing voice, downing a strong espresso or two, then commencing negotiations with her 2 1/2-year-old sister as to whether we’re going to watch the news, golf or Peppa Pig.
When I am not working… I relax near the water, preferably with my family and close friends.
I wish I could… Not suck at playing the guitar; get down to a single-digit golf handicap; have more hours in the day; make it home every night in time for dinner with my girls; and help all of my patients achieve their dreams of having a family.
Most people don’t know that… Friends rate me highly as an amateur cook (maybe they’re just being polite), and that my flourless chocolate cake is ranked among the best in the world.
When I was growing up, I wanted to be… A truck driver, a disc jockey, before telling my dad when I was six that I was going to be a doctor.
My favourite holiday spot is… Noosa, or on the back of a boat in Cowan Waters.
My greatest achievement is… Professionally – qualifying as a specialist after a 15-year journey; personally – becoming a dad.
The one person I would like to meet is… Having not long finished one of his books, reading about his attitude to life and business, and his work to make the world a better place, Sir Richard Branson – “Some 80% of your life is spent working. You want to have fun at home; why shouldn’t you have fun at work?”
The best advice my parents gave me was… work hard, be positive and you can achieve anything you want.
