    Get to know your doctor

    • I grew up in: New Zealand moving often as my dad got promotions. I’ve been fortunate to work in 12 countries so seen many but remember my upbringing in quiet, safe, friendly New Zeeland.
    • I start my day: Early, usually with exercise as a keen cyclist and recently swimmer and try to do the school run, if possible.
    • When I am not working: I spend at home with my family in my extensive garden and I love reading.
    • I wish I could: Become a part time successful inventor. Currently I have a number of projects underway. I have time to write another book or two as medicine has been fascinating for me. I would also like to spend more holiday time back in my native NZ.
    • Most people don’t know: That I’m a bit of a quiet nerd. I like reading science,  history, autobiographies and some fiction. I am comfortable being on my own thinking about stuff and reading.
    • When I was growing up: I wanted to be a doctor. My brother and sister got into medicine also.
    • My fav holidays spot is: New Zealand. I love going back and I just bought a cottage near the southern alps as a holiday home. It is an incredibly relaxing place.
    • My greatest achievement is: Professionally my greatest achievement would be a study I did showing more sex might improve sperm quality and fertility. It got me world attention for a while. Personally, being a Dad which is a lot of responsibility that I take seriously.
    • The one person I would like to meet: Jesus. Always been a Christian and would love to meet the real Jesus instead of everyone else’s interpretation of him.
    • The best advice my parents gave me: Mum – you’ll work it out. Dad – aim as high as you can in life, you might not achieve it but aim high.
